A Mother's Love

From Conception to Birth

She proves her worth

Through the discomfort and pain

Suffering not in vain

Through changes she will persevere

That soon she may hear

The cry of her child’s heart

From which she will not part

To nurture and to love

As an Angel from above

Through trials and through pain

That someday she may gain

A smile from her child’s face

An “I love you” full of grace

A love I can’t comprehend

This love without an end

For my heart is not the same

In this there is no shame

A Mother’s love, so vast

A love that lasts and lasts

A soothing word to ease the hurt

A gentle hand to ease the pain

A shower of love

Like a soft Spring rain

When “no” is the answer

It is not hard but firm

And given in love

That her child may learn

A trial they are

The teen years that follow

Some may even say

A bitter pill to swallow

Argue, teens do

What’s right and what’s wrong

But her love is patient

Her heart remains strong

At the wedding she cries

Mixing laughter with tears

The end of a cycle

And some of her fears

Concerned she will be

Until the end of her days

The love for her child

She takes to the grave

And when that day comes

God smiles upon her

For her work is done

Rest in his arms and smile down on us

With the love of a mother

Which none other surpasses

Happy Mother's Day
